Volunteering: On-Site Construction
Around the world, thousands of volunteers work on Habitat construction sites each week. Knowing and seeing that your efforts are making a tangible difference in your community is the unique and unforgettable experience that Habitat sites offer. Whether you are an experienced tradesperson or you don't know a sixteen-penny nail from a spackling knife, you are welcome on site.
Individuals
Habitat Newburgh currently works from 8am – 1pm (with a break at 10am) every Wednesday and Saturday, rain or shine, at several different locations. All volunteers must sign up before volunteering so that Habitat Newburgh staff and volunteers can ready the materials, supplies, and safety equipment needed for the work sites. Volunteers may sign up online through the VolunteerHub system, or if you call beforehand, we can assign you to the house where you're most needed. When you arrive, a site supervisor will direct your activities at the worksite for that day.
Please download our Volunteer Information Packet (pdf) for more detailed information and answers to common questions. Fill out the one-page Volunteer Interest Form to tell us about yourself and your skills or areas of interest, or register as a new volunteer on our VolunteerHub page. You are also welcome to call our office (845) 568-6035 with any questions.
For directions to the current worksites, go to Current Projects.
Volunteer Groups
If you would like to bring a group to the construction site (5 or more volunteers), please be sure to schedule your visit with the Habitat office at (845) 568-6035 at least two weeks in advance. For more information, please see the Group Information and Form (pdf). Remember, the earlier you sign up the better. Our schedule often fills quickly, and we want to make your volunteer experience is as worthwhile as possible.
