Completed Projects

Across 50 states, more than 7000 female volunteers pounded nails and raised walls at over 200 Habitat home construction sites. Women Build 2010 is an annual national initiative of Habitat for Humanity International, sponsored by Lowe's. Habitat Newburgh was thrilled to again participate in this exciting movement, and would like to thank Lowe's for the $5,000 gift card granted to purchase needed construction materials.
The former site of "Big Mamma's Soul Food Kitchen", which had been abandoned and boarded up for over 20 years, Women Build 2010 is now a beautiful 2-bedroom, 2-bath home for Shawndra Rose and her 2 sons. Site and Construction Manager Lisa Biggin overcame a unique challenge with this particularly narrow lot by designing a 2-story structure that measures 12' wide x 60' deep. In March we passed the Energy Star inspections and are proud to say this is our first Energy Star rated home in 5 years.
Volunteers were led by House Captains Celeste Bloomer, Nancy Rathbun, and Cornelia Gallagher.
Habitat would like to extend our sincerest appreciation and admiration to the tireless women (and men!) who made this project possible!
