6 Federal Street - YOUTH BUILD

Thanks to a grant from the Orange County Department of Community Development, a Congressional earmark secured by Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), and 10 City of Newburgh youth, this shell will soon be 3 transitional housing units for very low-income families in need of safe, decent homes.

A select team of young people aged 17-24 will participate in a 40-week program where they will earn their GED through Best Resources, receive skill and career training from the Laborers' Local #17, and gain hands-on experience with Habitat Newburgh as they build 6 Federal Street.

The need for transitional housing and more affordable rental units has long been identified at Habitat Newburgh, and 6 Federal Street will provide a safe haven for partner families while they help build their Habitat homes.
